An online learning community designed for college students that educates and cultivates a healthy body image, as well as provides mentoring and support for those struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, body dissatisfaction, and low self-esteem.  The Ted Talk platform was built on the concept, “Ideas worth spreading.” A concept so simple, yet so poignant at the same time.

Well, we have an idea we’ve been spreading for quite some time now.  And that’s, “What if we loved our bodies?”

What would we then do with our lives? What would we create with all that extra time and energy that’s been freed up? What would we invent? What solutions would we bring to the world? What companies or non-profits would we start? What communities would we impact with our knowledge, our art, our skills, our heart?

I’ve often asked myself, “How would my college education been different if I never experienced the brain disease of an eating disorder?” “What would I have discovered, uncovered, or been inspired to do, be, or see if I felt at peace with my body?”

I can’t go back in time and change what happened, but I can make use out of my life today to support others on their quest.

Engaging with college students is one of my greatest loves, and has been part of my work for the past decade. I’m honored each time I get to speak on a college campus, facilitate a workshop or retreat, or serve in a mentoring role.

When I’m on a campus, the need for community and conversation around cultivating a healthy body image is always so great, as well as the need for real-life examples of those of us living so radically.

To expand our ability to support and empower college students more sustainably, we’re excited to share with you a project we’ve been working on and collaborating with KMB for Answers, another non-profit organization whose as passionate as we are. It’s called, “Love Your Body U,” and in January 2016 we’re launching a pilot of it.

Love Your Body U (LYBU) is a free, online learning community designed for college students that educates and cultivates a healthy body image, as well as provides mentoring and support for those struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, body dissatisfaction, and low self-esteem.

The program strives to assist students in revolutionizing the way they relate to their bodies, so they can go forward into the world doing what they feel called to do.

LYBU aims to serve solely as an educational and support platform in the areas of prevention, community, and mentoring, not clinical treatment, by offering a programming solution online, meeting students where they are at.

Even though we understand these issues affect all genders, participation in the pilot program is open to women-identified college students. Currently we have students enrolled from a diversity of colleges across the Northeast, as well as abroad!

If you or someone you know would be interested in joining LYBU, please email jill@opheliasplace.org

May we all continue the good work of finding peace within our selves and our bodies, so we can continue the even better work of being of purpose and service to others.
